It's me again! Yes most of you probably thought I had died or something, but not so! First of all, I have been very very busy lately with school, and what not. secondly I tried to log-on but my account wouldn't work. It was only today that I remembered I have to use my google account to sign on now. Anyway I'll try to post more, but it may still prove difficult because I'm still pretty busy.

Also it may take a while for all of you to see this post because this blog probably isn't on you 'frequent visits list'.

Braces! Ahhhhh!!!

Well... that magical day for most teenagers has come for me. Braces. Although, they weren't as bad as I thought they were. They just hurt after they get put on, and after every tightening. Also brushing your teeth/braces is pretty tricky. Eating hard stuff after tightening isn't good either, because the braces make your teeth very sensitive, and eating anything hard will hurt, A LOT. But they stop hurting maybe 4-5 days after the tightening, so don't worry. Putting all that aside, they aren't so bad. But it all depends how much you want a movie star smile!

Not Much To Post About

As the title says... not much to post about. There are a few things though. For one thing there is this big construction site a little ways down the river, they start work around first light (7:00 AM) and keep it up 'till nightfall (5:00 PM). Every morning at 7:00 I am awoke by loud construction noises, but thats not all bad. I don't a an alarm clock loud enough to wake me, so that works pretty well. One of my other computers it on the fritz right now, been trying to shut-down for about 15 minutes. That was a bit random, but anyway. I guess I'll have to look forward to five years of loud construction, *sigh*.

Sorry for the 'no posts' thing lately, but once again the title says 'Not much to post about'.

Halloween!

How was everyone's Halloween? Party? Trick 'er Treating? Staying home?

I have noticed that over last year and this year there has been a steady decreace of Trick 'er Treaters, last year (The last year I went) The streets seemed deserted compaired to the year before. I'm not sure if it's just Cochrane, or if all of Alberta is seeing less and less Trick 'er Treaters. Here the doorbell rang only about 30 times (A few years ago it would ring about 60 times or more). This is a very strange occurrence.

And finally, what was everyone for Halloween? Home-made, store bought, Random things thrown on?

Snow!!!

When I got up this morning there was snow on the ground. Of course it's mostly melted already, but the point is it was there!!! It sat there on the ground, mocking me, saying 'Hey Tom, I'm here to put an end to your summer and fall outside activities, mwahahaha!' I suppose this is the first day of winter, (*sob*) but winter isn't all bad! I still get to... to.... Ok, ok I'm not a winter person, I don't even know any winter sports. Did any of you get snow this morning?

I am a big fan of cards myself. My favorite game is Texas Hold 'Em Poker (no blinds though, too confusing =P). Every time I go camping with friends or family I always bring my poker set. My best games are almost always here at home though. Once I got over 1000 points!! And I got a picture to prove it! Whats your favorite card game?

Anyways now that that's out of my system, I can continue with the post. But... there really isn't much to post about... execpt.... FALL!!! And a question. For those of you who are going trick 'er treating, what are you going to be? I have heard that the generic costumes aren't that popular anymore, like the store bought ones. I've always done well with home made, but then again I have more costume parts than the average Joe... So my question still stands, who's being what for Halloween?

The First Tennis Lesson

Was today (which is turning out to be a very busy one) and I did very well. We did a hitting drill and I got almost every ball. The funny thing is I didn't practice over the summer (too hot!). So I'm just better for no reason.

My New Guitar Teacher

His name is Martin and he is a lot like my previous teacher except more reliable. He is a VERY good player and hopefully will teach me well. So for I've only been to one class, but he seems nice enough, and even has a nice dog!

Since this is the first post of the school year I feel it is my duty to apologize for my long absence from Blogger. But now that the school year is here, I will try to post more often. Hope you all had a good summer, although it seemed a short one.

The Sad Story Of My Lucky Quarter...

Goes like this. Today I was out on an errand with Mom (I had to buy a birthday present for my friend otherwise I would have stayed home, out of the heat) and before I left I had flipped a quarter and called it right five times in a row! I told mom and she said it was impossible and told me to do it again. You know what? I did it again! and after that she told me to do it AGAIN so I did it AGAIN!!! By now I was sure this was the luckiest quarter in the world. Shortly we arrived at the drug store (that's where I would buy my present) and went in. After walking around and picking things out, I went up to pay. My payment would consist of: one loonie, one toonie, and 12 quarters. After I paid and Mom paid we got a lotto 649 ticket for my Dad, and after I picked the first box I flipped my quarter to find out whether I should keep the number ( do I keep 12 *flip* tails, nope *changes 12*). After that Mom had to line up again to pay, and I went outside and flipped my quarter. But I kept calling it wrong again and again and again!! "Oh no," I thought. "I must have given my lucky quarter to the cashier!" I went back in and Mom was just paying. When I got there she was done and my hope fell... but then I felt a second quarter in my pocket. So on the way home and after I got home I just kept flipping, but I only got it about half the time. I was very depressed, but I figure if one IS my lucky quarter I should give it a break to regain its luck. So that is what I will do. Calling it right five times in a row, three times is pretty lucky, you must admit. For the mathematicians among us, Mom says the odds of that are: "I don't know" AND THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS!

Back from Washington (The state)

I just yesterday got back from WA state. My Dad had a meeting in Olympia and we came along (Olympia is about 60 miles south of Seattle). On the way there we passed through Mount Rainier National Park. Mount Rainier is a volcano and we were only about a km from the top. When we got to Olympia we stayed in a topnotch hotel called Pheonix Inn suites. We got the best room =D! called the 'Governor's suite'. It was awesome!!!! Three times the size of a normal hotel room, TWO tvs and all the furnishings. Plus we could walk to the harbor. . . it's sea water but not on the coast. There is a channel that runs from the sea all the way down to Olympia. We only stayed there for three days though and then we were on the road again. We went up and drove around the coast after that, and camped right on the coast. I got to run through the waves, although I didn't get too far out (I've seen Jaws) and though we didn't seen any marine life we saw plenty of crab shrapnel (those gulls can be ruthless). After that we just drove home (camped on the slopes of Mount Rainier though). Did you know that the world's best Holiday Inn Express is in Spokane, WA? It even has its own hotel dog, a golden retriever named Kip. A grand total of about 30 hours driving. Ugh!

I have finally conquered RO!!! And there are only a few catches. Number one: I have to play it first, before anything else that requires a CD. Number two: I must have the disk drive open to play it (weird huh?). Number three: after using a CD I have to restart the computer to play it. But that's ok, the game itself makes up for that. It's awesome! Nice graphics, good game play, very team based, and iron sights (aimers) for all guns! All of which I like.

Every wonder why the next door yard is better than yours? I sure do... But that's probably just because we haven't watered ours yet. This brutal heat isn't doing anything for it either. But back to the question at hand: Why is my lawn worse off than his? My explanation is that it's the angles. Whe you look at your lawn you see through all the green grass and only see brown (because the green grass is straight and the brown flat). But when you look at his, you're at an angle, thus you see the green but not the brown!

Semi-good news from the RO front.

I went out and bought the CDs for the game and I got to play it! Once. For unknown reasons that I can't explain, it started giving me the runtime error again, and an invalid image error, saying "this is not a valid windows image." Needless to say I was crushed, and curse the name of Tripwire Entertainment forever! But if I got it to work once I can do it again (I hope). The game was great while I got to play it, though, so this only served to spur me on!

What I Have Been Up To

Hi Bloggers Readers! Sorry for my prolonged silence, but I have been very busy. There has been a lot of stuff going on (well... thats a lie, it's just a few very big things going on.) The main one being this: I downloaded this game from a system called Steam, which is used to power some games like Counter Strike: Source, and others that I have. When you download from Steam you pay them and you get it on your Steam browser, no CD required. But after I did that and tried to run it, it gave me error after error after error. So me and my dad have been working away at it.

In the meantime I have rediscovered an old favorite: Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome! And I have been playing that to wear away my stress over STUPID RO!!!! (RO = Red Orchestra which is the game I downloaded from Steam.) I have also been looking at the RO forum to see if there is any help there. There have been a few solutions but none have worked for me =..(

Who here goes to Wal*Mart? There are plans for building a Wal*Mart in town, and I am going to a debate club to debate about it. We are going to talk about the pros and cons of Wal*Mart, and anything else we can think of. So tonight I am going to the Host's house and watching two hour and a half Wal*Mart movies. One pro, and one against.

The Weather

Has been very nice here, lots of strong sun and cool wind. The snow is melting away and every one is happy! All in all a nice day for some indoor basket ball!!! Which I am just about to go to. Wish me luck (Hopefully minimal nail scratches.)

Also I have a game for the readers! It's called guess the World War II rifle! I will post some pictures of some rifles from WWII and give you how many words, the first and last letter, and if it has numbers in it. I will post answers in following posts.

This one shouldn't be too hard. It's my favorite rifle and I talk about it a lot. Two words: first letter of the first word is M. There is a number in the first word. First letter, second word: G, and the last letter of the second word is D. (Note: There is no last letter to the first word because there are only two letters.)

The Culture Fair!

Comes once a year for homeschoolers like me, I haven't been posting very much because of it. But it finished last saturday and I got some really cool pictures to show. This is a model Omaha beach we made, complete with sea-wall, sea, and cliff. Thats me in the helmet and my friend/helper Jacob.

The Art Of The Making Of The Bagel

The cooking of the bagel is a mystical process. I have developed my own technique using a toaster oven, with settings of low, medium, and high. First, one must insert the bagel and cook once on medium. The bagel being GRIPPED with icy coldness, must be warmed AGAIN!!! (Assuming it was frozen it the first place – I only work with frozen bagels.) Next, after the bagel is done, you wait for about 10 - 20 minutes for the heat to melt the inside, and then to cool off a bit. After that, cook on low. When you take it out and saw it open, it should be soft warmish hot and the butter will melt on it so that it soaks it up and becomes delightful!

Only a non-educated-in-the-way-of-the-bagel person wouldn’t cook their bagel this way.

The second post of the new year, bloggers! (and non-bloggers too.) How is everyone? I am good, a little tired but good. You see, it was basket ball today, and I was the only boy... but it was an ok game. It wasn't fully B-Ball though, we also played Bump and alternated half and full court, because everyone was feeling a little tired at the start, me because I was up way too late for my liking (12:00.) I have a really good book. It is The third Robert Jordan book called The Great Hunt.

SHARKS!
This shark is none other than the great white variety. Now how's that for a good picture :) There were many really cool things at Seaworld. Like eels, sharks (above is a good shot), orcas (like Shamoo) penguins, and more!

One of the many things I learned over there is Manatees love Romaine lettuce. My relatives not only had a private pool but also had pineapple bushes (yes bushes not trees). You wouldn't believe how much better home grown pineapple tastes. (Btw that's the pool in the background).
The cool thing about the pineapple is that you can whack off the top and stick it in the ground and it will grow. Thats how all my uncles bushes got there.

Back from Florida

Wow, what a vacation. It was so warm down there, no snow for miles, and I got to wear shorts every day. And my relatives had a PRIVATE POOL!!!! Woohooo! I went swimming almost every day (you had to to avoid the heat.) We went to Sea World and Epcot, which was awesome. And we had huge home-cooked meals every night (Uncle Richard is a very good cook.)

I hope it wasn't too cold while I was away. And I wonder if anything new happened?

Basket-Ball... Again

The B-Ball games are getting ferocious. I got a huge cut on my finger (from someone elses finger nail, but I'm not sure who...) And medical supplies were needed, so I wouldn't bleed all over the ball and anything else I touched. Oh well. The funny thing is we don't play with many rules, just what we think is fair. It was Boys Vs. Girls last time and Boys won!!! Hooray! Although the girls said they won (Lies!)

Mini-Vacation

This past weekend my family and I went up to see the Frank Slide. And we stayed at Blairmore, a small town right by the Frank Slide. There were a surprising amount of hotels, motels, and bed & breakfasts, none of them very good. We had originally planned to stay in a nice cabin 15 minutes away, but they were all full.

Too bad, they sounded really nice: "We invite you to come and enjoy a quiet, relaxing time and experience nature in a natural mountain setting. Settle into you own deluxe cedar chalet located on the Crowsnest River with the Rockies on your doorstep."

Cool, huh?

We had breakfast at a small place on main street, called the Stone's Throw Cafe'. MOM GET OFF MY BACK!!!!! *grumble*

Mom's controlling this post. Completely. Well.... The bottem half after the "Cool, huh?".

A nice Thurday, a bit windy.

A weird thing happened the other day. My aunt and uncle stopped by on the Thanksgiving weekend and we put out a pail of water for them to drink and when they left we forgot to put it in again. The next day we looked into it and there were WATER BEETLES IN IT!!! They were Predacious Diving Beetles (Acilius species).

btw The pail was on the deck and filled with tap water (far from the river).

If any of you, my readers have an explanation for this I would like to hear it. I think the beetles flew (if water beetles can). But what do you readers think?

Tuesday B-Ball is always fun. And I played really WELL (for David.) But... Only 6 people showed up today (counting myself). Jake my good friend was there (as always). He says "Cool, dude" and then "aren't I pro" (Pro is a little word we use.)

Pro is slang for "professional".

As to why I like gloomy days I find sunny days too hot and winter too cold. And it's nice and cool and sometimes rainy.

This Blog's name is after all Simple Dog Thoughts so here are a few thoughts from my dog:

#1: A dog's day. Today I got to come on both car rides and I got a nice walk with my friends Luna and Mandy. We played together a lot and I even found a good rock! And better yet I got to ride in the Subaru. It's sooooo comfy in there!

#2: A dog at home. Today there wasn't much going on in the house. I slept most of the time but about 3:30ish I got to go for that walk I mentioned earlier. I think this was a great day all in all.

Flooding in on New Orleans

New Orleans was a beautiful city but then... Well you all know about it and probably don't need me to tell you. But I would like you to hear my thoughts on it.

I think that the police force and military could be doing more for the pet populace of NOLA. I was watching Fox news yesterday and there was a woman who was just frantic bacause she wanted to leave but the NO police wouldn't let her take her dog. So she stayed.

There is a lot more they could do. Like letting that poor woman take her loyal dog! It outrages me!
